Visiting Assistant Professor of Religious Studies
The Religious Studies Department at Hamilton College invites applications for a one-year visiting position at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor for the 2026-27 academic year, with contract beginning July 1, 2026. We seek candidates to teach courses at all undergraduate levels on religions in the Americas, with a focus on religion and politics. We are especially interested in candidates whose research focuses on the intersections of religion and postcolonialism and/or decolonization movements. The successful candidate will have teaching competency in US religions and in religious studies theory and method. We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate their experience in teaching or working with broadly diverse student populations while contributing to a vibrant learning community that values academic freedom, creativity, and intellectual curiosity. Hamilton College's Religious Studies Department teaches students from across the college and works closely with Religious Studies majors and minors. We offer students the opportunity to develop skills in critical and creative thinking, analysis, and research through the study of diverse religious traditions. Our courses explore the texts, objects, spaces, and lived experiences connected with religious traditions and cultures, as well as the art, films, and other forms of cultural expression that represent them. We also cross-list our courses with a variety of other departments and programs at Hamilton, including American Studies, Cinema and New Media Studies, Classics, and Sociology.
Candidates with ABD will be considered, although candidates with a Ph.D. are preferred. The teaching load for this position is five courses over two semesters.
