Visiting Instructor/Visiting Assistant Professor ECE and Elementary Education - Non-Tenure Track

The Education Department invites applications for a full-time, 1-Year position in Education. The appointment will be made at the Assistant Professor level, but higher rank may be considered. The successful candidate will have expertise in Early Childhood and Elementary Education and experience with a diverse population of students, teacher education, and supervision of field experiences. The successful candidate will be required to teach on-campus and online courses at the undergraduate and graduate level related to Early Childhood and Elementary Education theory, curriculum, instruction and assessment of children with and without disabilities. Expertise of standards, pedagogy, and differentiated instruction is essential. Collaboration with local districts serving culturally and economically diverse children is required.

Supervision Received: Department Chair of Education

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teaching workload (24 semester hours of credit of instruction per school year), and preparation for classroom instruction.
  • Primary responsibilities: teaching, academic advising, and supervision of field experiences.
  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses on campus and online related to the development and needs of all children in Prek-8 classrooms.
  • Supervising field experiences, implementing a coaching model, and preparing students to interact effectively with children and families in inclusive settings.
  • Participate in curriculum review and development including activities related to accreditation by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and the Association for Advancing Quality in Education Preparation (AAQEP).
  • Attend university functions, including commencement; convocation; and faculty, committee, and department meetings.
  • Utilization of technology in teaching and advising.
  • Providing service to the department, university, and profession.
  • Opportunities to teach summer and winter terms, as well as, online and graduate evening courses.

Requirements

  • Candidates must hold an earned Master's degree OR Doctorate in Early Childhood Education, Early Education, or Elementary Education from an accredited institution.
  • Experience in supervision of inclusive field experiences is preferred.
  • Three years' experience teaching in inclusive Early Childhood and/or Elementary Education classrooms including students with and without disabilities.
  • Candidates should be knowledgeable of emergent literacy, language development, policies, and standards.
  • Ability to participate in scholarly work.
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching, demonstrated teaching experience appropriate to the level of appointment, and evidence of scholarly/creative activity.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse student and faculty body.
  • Experience in teaching culturally relevant practices.
  • Ability to integrate appropriate technology in teaching.
  • Must be able to satisfactorily pass a check conducted by the Criminal History Systems Board (CORI) as well as a completed background check satisfactory to the university.
  • Ability to perform all duties with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Demonstrated record or potential for successfully teaching university level courses in multiple modalities.
