Visitor Services Assistant (Part Time)

The Sedgwick Museum has a vacancy for a friendly, organised and pro-active person to join the Visitor Services team. This role provides the opportunity to work with a small team focused on delivering an excellent welcome and visitor experience for all Museum audiences. Duties include assisting in the running of the Museum shop, contributing to public engagement planning and delivery, social media, facilitating audience research, collecting and collating data, contributing to strategic planning and maintaining and developing gallery resources.

The Sedgwick Museum's collections comprise more than two million fossils, rocks and minerals representing 300 years of collecting. The Museum welcomes more than 90,000 public visitors a year and delivers popular public programmes and outreach. The Museum's priorities include reaching a larger and more diverse public audience, increasing and enhancing the support we provide to researchers and students, and taking a lead in the regional and national museums sector.

The role would suit someone who enjoys engaging with the public and contributing ideas to the wider team and strategy. Applicants should have previous customer service or visitor facing experience and excellent communications skills, with knowledge of or an interest in Museums, Earth Sciences or Public Engagement. Experience of working in a museum would be advantageous. Please also note this role is part-time at 0.2FTE for Saturdays only.

Limited funding: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.

We particularly welcome applications from candidates from a BME background for this vacancy as they are currently under-represented at this level in our department.
