Research Assistant

We are seeking eligible candidates in the capacity of ‘research coordinator/Research Assistant’ who will work closely with the PI and the Team on at least two projects. The first project will focus on examining the association between socioeconomic status (SES)/income inequality and selected health outcomes such as hypertension, depression, and obesity. The second project will investigate the relationship between police shootings, SES, and social factors in communities of color and low-income communities. These projects will utilize various datasets, including the National Conference of State Legislatures, Washington Post data on police violence, and county-level data.

The ideal candidate must have prior experience working with NHANES/MEPS for the first project and the National Conference of State Legislatures to collect policy data for the 2nd project. He/she should also possess experience or ongoing work with systematic reviews and literature reviews. Additionally, they must demonstrate strong managerial skills, familiarity with the WHO conceptual framework, minority theories on violent crimes, and social vulnerability, as well as the ability to collaborate with multiple teams.

Candidate is expected to be proficient in working with databases such as Scopus, PubMed, and Google Scholar, and will be responsible for conducting literature reviews, draft manuscript/report writing, edit and finalize the report, work with EndNote, develop PowerPoint presentations and posters, attending meetings, and being present in the office for at least 1-2 days a week.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conducting literature reviews.
  • Be familiar with Systematic/Scoping review, Covidence, EndNote or similar reference managers.
  • Reviewing policies and legislation from sources such as the National Conference of State Legislatures and state/federal legislations related to the research topic, or Hilltop institute for hospital legislation on community benefit.
  • Collecting data on police accountability policies and related areas to analyze crime control measures.
  • Find related variables for the analysis using NHANES/MEPS data.
  • Be able to go to the MEPS restricted data center in Rockville if needed.
  • Managing and responding to project-related emails.
  • Keeping meeting notes and managing project requirements.
  • Meet, and communicate with librarian at Medical Welch library or other JHU systems.
  • Attending seminars and other meetings as required.
  • Summarizing project results.
  • Preparing progress reports for the primary investigator and funding agency.
  • Contributing to drafting abstracts, articles, reports, and presentations.
  • Being adaptable to working on multiple similar projects.

This is a casual position, and this is an opportunity of collaborating on other related projects focusing on hospital community benefit initiatives for the future, in that case the candidate should be willing to learn more about the social vulnerability, and cost report data.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
  • Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Starting Salary Range: $17.20 - $30.30 HRLY (Commensurate with experience)
