Job Duties
- Provide water chemistry expertise for the operation and maintenance of MU’s potable water and water treatment systems.
- Collect and analyze various water samples from the combined heat and power plant boilers, cooling towers, potable water systems, softeners, reverse osmosis units, and condensate polishers to verify compliance with established water system guidelines and procedures.
- Recommend and/or make necessary adjustments to various processes within the facility to maintain proper water chemistry control.
- Monitor, adjust, order, and handle various industrial chemicals to maintain proper inventory and compliance.
- Monitor and direct the operation and control of the campus potable water system to meet EPA and MDNR regulations.
- Prepare and review required reports to assure compliance with environmental regulations.
- Respond to emergencies as required in the potable water or plant water system.
- Train power plant staff on the safe and effective operation of power plant water treatment systems, water treatment chemistry control, and potable water system operation.
- Work with vendors/contractors regarding various water treatment projects and chemical control recommendations.
- Monitor operator logs and worksheets for proper water treatment system operation and control. Training and adjusting required.
- Recommend necessary maintenance repairs and improvements to potable water system and plant water pre-treatment systems.
Shift
7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary
Preferred Qualifications
An associate degree (two years of college) with an emphasis in chemistry and/or engineering; or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired. A four-year degree in with an emphasis on chemical/mechanical technology would be preferred.
A minimum of three years’ experience in the testing and control of potable water and/or industrial water treatment systems
Possess of MDNR certified public water distribution system operator license or be able to obtain licensing within 12 months.
Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, which will allow legal operation of a motor vehicle in the State of Missouri.
Be familiar with environmental regulations regarding the operation of public water systems, hazardous materials, and general chemical management.
Have a strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand the operation of the complex machinery and electronic systems found in potable water systems and power plants.
Be able to safely access all areas in the power plant and the potable water systems, lift, 50 lbs., work in hot/cold environments, and confined spaces.
Anticipated Hiring Range
Hiring Salary Range: $25.00 to $35.00 per hour
