Job Description:
The position reports to the Assistant Director of Water Resiliency to develop and implement initiatives and programs to fulfill the terms of existing sponsored research and community assistance projects, with the following areas of focus: environmental funding, finance, and policy; community resiliency; and Native Nations support services. Integral to this position is the ability to build relationships with community partners, including Native Nations and Indigenous communities, applying existing knowledge and skillsets to support capacity building for clean, safe water.
This position will also seek out and develop new funding sources to further the mission of the Syracuse University ISE and its Environmental Finance Center. Will provide research, policy, and tech support, for utility infrastructure, affordability, resilience. This position will be based out of ISEs offices in Syracuse, NY. Travel will be required. Supervision of 1-2 part time employees or student interns will be required, as well as collaboration with external partners including community-based organizations, collaborators from other universities, and state and federal agency staff. Remote/hybrid work will be considered. Not all geographical areas within the United States are eligible.
This position is part of a bargaining unit and is represented by the union SEIU, Local 200United.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree required in a relevant field (Environmental planning, natural resources management, or similar); Masters preferred.
- 2+ years of experience working with water sector organizations or non-profits, planning organizations, government organizations, or similar institutions.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Ability to successfully coordinate multiple projects, meet deadlines with competing demands, and responsibilities in a fast-paced work environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to deliver compelling public presentations and talks.
- Subject-matter expertise in environmental infrastructure, water resources, community planning, or similar field.
- Experience in qualitative and quantitative analysis and ability to apply these techniques to formal and informal research environments.
- Previous experience, or lived experience, engaging with Native Nations or indigenous communities a plus.
- Spanish-language fluency a plus.
Responsibilities:
- Develop resources, workshops, and technical assistance projects to respond to target audience needs across water-focused projects, focusing on Native Nations and tribal utilities, small communities, and local governments.
- Coordinate the delivery of assistance, training, and events, working with both internal and external partners.
- Apply knowledge of water resources and planning, including but not limited to:
- Water infrastructure planning
- Community engagement
- State and federal infrastructure funding
- Support the collection, analysis, and publication of program metrics and impact, including:
- Developing impact-driven reports for sponsors and for organizational use
- Assist with identifying and supporting relevant research opportunities for internal program needs as well as with Faculty partners, as needed.
- Use assessment, analysis, valuation tools, and methods to identify recommendations to inform decision-making at different scales as well as support strategic resource development at ISE.
- Produce tools, reports, and publications to broaden the reach of ISEs expertise.
- Identify and pursue new funding opportunities related to community and infrastructure resiliency.
- Conceptualize innovative and effective new programs and integrate them by writing grant proposal applications for future funding opportunities.
- Other duties as needed and assigned.
