Workforce Faculty
POSITION SUMMARY
The Workforce Faculty member plays a vital role in advancing the College's mission of educational attainment and workforce readiness by delivering high-quality, industry-aligned instruction in Workforce programs. Reporting to the AVP of Workforce, the faculty member provides direct instruction, curriculum development, and student support that prepares learners for successful careers.
Instructional Excellence
The Workforce Faculty member designs and delivers engaging, hands-on instruction that balances theoretical knowledge with practical application. The faculty member maintains current industry certifications and stays abreast of evolving industry standards, technologies, and best practices to ensure curriculum remains relevant and aligned with regional labor market needs. Instruction incorporates work-based learning principles, safety protocols, and industry-recognized competencies that prepare students for immediate employment and long-term career advancement.
Student-Centered Support
The faculty member creates an inclusive learning environment that supports diverse adult learners, including traditional students, incumbent workers, and career changers. The faculty member provides individualized guidance on skill development, career pathways, and credential attainment while fostering a classroom culture of professionalism, collaboration, and continuous improvement. The faculty member tracks student progress, identifies barriers to success, and implements interventions to maximize retention and completion rates.
Industry Partnership and Program Development
The Workforce Faculty member actively engages with employer partners, industry advisory committees, and professional organizations to strengthen program quality and employment outcomes. The faculty member contributes to curriculum review and revision processes, participates in articulation agreement development, and supports the integration of new equipment, technologies, and instructional methods. The faculty member collaborates with the Department Chair to identify opportunities for program expansion, new credentials, and enhanced work-based learning experiences such as apprenticeships, internships, and job shadowing.
Departmental Collaboration and Professional Growth
The faculty member works collaboratively with departmental colleagues and cross-functional teams to support student success initiatives, assessment activities, and continuous improvement efforts. The faculty member participates in professional development opportunities, maintains required industry certifications, and contributes to the College's strategic goals through service on committees, participation in community outreach, and engagement in scholarly or industry activities that enhance teaching effectiveness and program reputation.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Instruction & Student Learning
- Confirm AVP-approval for an annual teaching load with an appropriate distribution of credit-bearing courses, non-credit trainings, and other professional commitments which maintain compliance with Academic Guideline and Procedure 2.A09.
- Commit to becoming familiar with relevant instruction and assessment strategies, research, and latest findings identifying factors that positively impact the classroom and the learning experience of students of diverse backgrounds and identities.
- Utilize a variety of effective instructional strategies that help support all students to meet high expectations for active and independent learning and higher order thinking.
- Treat students with respect and be responsive to the students needs within reasonable expectations.
- Clearly communicate to students at the beginning of a course what the students are expected to learn (course descriptions, syllabi, grading system, learning objectives, attendance policy, etc.).
- Develop methods of assessing student learning that are course-relevant as specified in the objectives and provide feedback in a timely manner for all assigned classes.
- Conduct classes and evaluate student performance in accordance with the catalog, course description, and course competencies, as explained in the course syllabus.
- Maintain academic integrity and rigor appropriate to the discipline.
- Develop new course materials or curricula as needed.
Professional Practice & Discipline Expertise
- Uphold the vision, mission, and values of the college.
- Maintain currency and expertise in your discipline and teaching methodology.
- Hold classes at the scheduled time for the full period, except for emergency situations.
- Conduct student evaluations of instruction in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Post and maintain office hours.
- Participate in mandatory compliance trainings.
- Participate in all departmental and college-wide assessment practices.
Administrative & Institutional Responsibilities
- Before the first day of classes, according to published deadlines, provide the department with a copy of course syllabi.
- Maintain accurate scholastic and attendance records in the learning management system adopted by the college, and submit required reports to meet deadlines, including submission of final grades by the published deadline.
- Attend departmental/divisional/instruction-wide meetings as called by the Department Chair, Dean, Vice President of Academic Success, and/or the President of the Community College of Aurora.
- Implement all departmental and college expectations.
- Abide by all relevant FERPA, CCCS, SBCCOE, and College policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Service
Faculty are expected to engage in activities in order to establish a strong sense of community and support the college and the work of colleagues and students.
