Yokohama City University invites applications for the position of Professor and Chair of the Department of Pulmonology at the Faculty of Medicine and Graduate School of Medicine. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching and research in the fields and courses listed below and for leading the clinical departments at Yokohama City University Hospital and Yokohama City University Medical Center. The Department of Pulmonology covers a broad spectrum of respiratory diseases, including lung cancer, pneumonia, COPD, asthma, interstitial lung diseases, tuberculosis, and infections. It comprises clinical and research groups and provides comprehensive, advanced care through collaboration with related departments and multidisciplinary teams. The department is one of the largest in Japan and supports regional healthcare by dispatching physicians to affiliated hospitals in Yokohama City and Kanagawa Prefecture. It also plays a central role in responding to emerging infections, including COVID-19, and serves as a core center for advanced respiratory care. In response to workforce challenges and changing regional needs, the department continues to strengthen collaboration with affiliated institutions and enhance its clinical system. With its expansion, developing future leaders in education and organizational management has become a priority, along with supporting diverse working styles and sustaining clinical practice, education, and research. In light of these circumstances, the next Professor and Chair should have broad clinical experience in pulmonology, strong leadership in clinical practice and education, and the ability to advance both basic and clinical research. Furthermore, we seek a candidate committed to training and recruiting young physicians, with strong management skills and the ability to contribute to pulmonology through academic activities, including participation in professional societies and the development of clinical guidelines.
