Rate My Professor Adele Morrison

Dr Adele Morrison is a Senior Lecturer in the Research School of Earth Sciences at the Australian National University. She holds a Bachelor of Science with First Class Honours and a University Medal in Physics from the Australian National University (2005), a Graduate Diploma in Education from the University of Canberra (2006), and a Doctor of Philosophy from the Australian National University (2014). Prior to her current role, she served as an Australian Research Council DECRA Fellow at ANU from 2017 to 2023 and as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Princeton University from 2014 to 2016. She also taught secondary school physics and mathematics in Canberra from 2007 to 2011.

Her research focuses on physical oceanography, with particular emphasis on the large-scale ocean circulation, Southern Ocean dynamics, and the use of high-resolution ocean and climate models to investigate past and future climate change. Key appointments include Program Leader of the Australian Centre for Excellence in Antarctic Science since 2021 and Co-chair of the Consortium for Ocean and Sea Ice Modelling in Australia. She has received the Malcolm McIntosh Prize for Physical Scientist of the Year in 2022, the L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Award in 2020, the IAPSO Early Career Scientist Medal in 2025, and the Meyers Medal in 2018. Dr Morrison contributes to international scientific leadership through roles such as membership on the CLIVAR Ocean Model Development Panel and the ACCESS-NRI Scientific Advisory Committee.
