Alexandra Gavrilidis is a Lecturer: Academic Development (AU Course Development) in Adelaide University's Academic Teaching and Learning Innovation Curriculum. Her academic interests center on course design, the integration of communication and technology in education, and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL). Additionally, she examines social and cultural factors that shape identity and how they influence interactions between people and their surrounding world. Gavrilidis adopts an enthusiastic and relational teaching style that prioritizes fostering student agency, curiosity, and engagement. She emphasizes building metacognition and self-efficacy in students and utilizes artificial intelligence to augment learning and assessment strategies within educational settings.
Gavrilidis commenced her career as a secondary school teacher, instructing in a broad spectrum of subjects such as History, Psychology, Religion, Research Project, Exploring Identities and Futures (EIF), Activating Identities and Futures (AIF), Music, and Rite Journey. She progressed to the role of Humanities Leader of Learning at a Catholic school located in the Adelaide central business district. In this capacity, she oversaw a team of teachers responsible for delivering Australian Curriculum and SACE humanities subjects, integrated Visible Learning into pedagogical practices, and implemented whole-cohort programs designed to cultivate students' creativity, empathy, and resilience. Her impactful work in education earned her the 2024 Catholic Education South Australia (CESA) Early Career Teacher (Secondary) Award. Contributing to scholarly discourse, she published the article titled "Rethinking the default: Making time to improve slide design for learning and engagement" in ASCILITE Publications in 2025. Furthermore, Gavrilidis possesses a Certificate III in Fitness and functions as a group fitness instructor, conducting weekly sessions including Zumba Fitness at local gyms and community venues, thereby advocating for fitness and wellbeing in the community.
