Dr. Alison Hill is a Senior Lecturer in Nutrition within the School of Allied Health and Human Performance at the College of Health, Adelaide University. She earned her Bachelor of Applied Science in Human Movement from the University of South Australia (1998-2001), followed by Honours in the same field (2001-2002). She later completed a Master of Dietetics (2012-2013) at the University of South Australia and a PhD at the University of Adelaide (2003-2007), where her research examined the combined effects of omega-3 fatty acids and aerobic exercise on cardiovascular risk factors. After her doctorate, Hill held a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at Pennsylvania State University in the United States (2007-2011), conducting numerous controlled clinical interventions focused on cardiovascular nutrition. She is an Accredited Practising Dietitian.
Upon returning to Australia, Dr. Hill joined the Alliance for Research in Exercise, Nutrition and Activity (ARENA), contributing actively to research on the benefits of dietary patterns, foods, and bioactives for athletic performance, cardiovascular health, cognitive function, and respiratory health. Her research specializations include nutrition and exercise interventions for cardiovascular health, bioactive nutrients, and performance nutrition. In professional service, she serves as Honorary Editor for the Nutrition Society of Australia (NSA) and has participated on the NSA Adelaide Branch Committee as well as the National Registration Committee for the NSA Registered Nutritionist Scheme. Additionally, she is a member of the CSIRO Health and Medical Human Research Ethics Committee (2018-2026). Dr. Hill's scholarly output is substantial, with key recent publications such as "Impact of dietary cholesterol from eggs and saturated fat on LDL cholesterol levels: a randomized cross-over study" (American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2025), "Does medication status impact the effectiveness of nuts in altering blood pressure and lipids? A systematic review and meta-analysis" (Nutrition Reviews, 2025), "Better diet quality is associated with reduced body pain in adults regardless of adiposity: Findings from the Whyalla Intergenerational Study of Health" (Nutrition Research, 2024), "Diet, risk of disordered eating and running-related injury in adult distance runners: a systematic review and meta-analysis" (Journal of Science and Medicine in Sport, 2025), and "Effects of energy restricted diets with or without nuts on weight, body composition and glycaemic control in adults: a scoping review" (Nutrition Research Reviews, 2025). Her work underscores her influence in advancing evidence-based nutrition science.
