Dr. Alka Nand is a Lecturer in the Department of Management within Monash Business School at Monash University. Holding a PhD from the University of Melbourne, her doctoral research investigated the development of operational capabilities by firms in Australian service and manufacturing sectors using primarily secondary data. Her expertise centers on operations and supply chain management across services, manufacturing, and public sectors, alongside interests in sustainability, circular economies, and food waste. She has published in leading journals such as International Journal of Production Economics, International Journal of Operations and Production Management, International Journal of Production Research, International Journal of Hospitality Management, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, Journal of Business Research, and Journal of Cleaner Production.
Dr. Nand is an experienced lecturer who has taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses locally and abroad, currently delivering Supply Chain Management at Monash University and accepting PhD students. She co-chaired the Australia and New Zealand Academy of Management (ANZAM) Operations, Supply Chain, and Services Management Symposium in 2021 and 2022. Key research projects under her leadership include Manufacturing Sector Circular Economy Capabilities: Identifying Enablers, Barriers, and Enhancements (2021-2022), Improving Procurement and Supply Chain Management at Monash Health (2019-2022), and Leverage Emerging Technologies To Drive Logistics and Warehousing Transformation (2018-2019). Recent publications include Understanding food waste in the hospitality industry: a social practice theory approach (2025, International Journal of Hospitality Management), Sequences in developing operational capabilities for competitive performance – a critical review and practical implications (2024, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management), Impact of relational norms on performance: interaction between solidarity, power and flexibility in buyer-supplier relationships (2025, Production Planning & Control), and A quest for stakeholder synchronization in the CAR T-cell therapy supply chain (2024, Frontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology). Her research contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals including SDG 2 Zero Hunger, SDG 12 Responsible Consumption and Production, and SDG 17 Partnerships for the Goals, with media contributions on sustainable manufacturing.
