Mrs Amanda Bridgewater is a Lecturer in Nursing within the School of Nursing and Midwifery, part of the College of Health at Adelaide University. She holds postgraduate qualifications in Emergency Nursing, Neonatal Nursing, and Nurse Education. Having been registered as a nurse since 2004, Amanda has spent her career working with SA Health as a general nurse. Her professional journey reflects a deep passion for knowledge, reflective practice, and education. She began her academic career at UniSA in 2022 and now continues at Adelaide University, where she expresses great privilege in mentoring future generations of professional registered nurses. Her interests particularly lie in improving the student learning experience in both academic and clinical environments, authentic assessment, and upholding Academic Integrity.
Amanda teaches a variety of core courses in the Bachelor of Nursing program, contributing significantly to the preparation of students for professional practice. Among these are NURS 2040 Assessment, Diagnostics and Pharmacotherapeutics (2024-2025), NURS 3045 Nursing Context of Practice: Primary Health Care (2024-2025), NURS 3056 Transition to Professional Practice (2024-2025), NURS 1072 Foundations of Nursing Practice (2024), NURS 2023 Health of Adults (2024), and NURS 3055 Evidence Based Nursing Practice (2024). She also instructs in courses such as Primary Health Care Nursing (NURS-3002), Nursing in Complex Settings (NURS-1022), and Clinical Project (NURS-6800), focusing on practical and contextual nursing skills.
In terms of scholarly output, Amanda has recently co-authored conference papers and reports centered on innovative teaching practices. Key publications include: "Collaborative reflection in online education: Extending teaching squares to foster peer learning among online educators" by Kaur, Bridgewater, and Harmon (ASCILITE 2025 Conference Companion Materials, 2025); "Knowledge translation and dissemination: Teaching Squares" (poster, ASCILITE 2025); and the report "Teaching squares: interdisciplinary reflection to enhance academic practice for student learning" by Harmon et al. (UniSA, 2025). Additionally, she contributed to a six-minute streaming video titled "Teaching Squares" as an original creative work in 2025. These contributions underscore her commitment to advancing educational methodologies in nursing.
