Andrew Lymn-Penning is a Lecturer in Architecture in the School of Architecture and Built Environment within the College of Creative Arts, Design and Humanities at Adelaide University. He serves as a course coordinator and lecturer, teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate architecture programs, including design studios, communication, and technology subjects. Since 2018, he has delivered structured learning experiences for large student cohorts at Adelaide University and the University of South Australia. Prior to his academic roles, Lymn-Penning worked as a Graduate of Architecture at Das Studio from 2019 to 2021 and as Designer and Co-Director of BIGBUOYS from 2020 to 2024, handling graphic, exhibition, and digital design projects.
As a PhD candidate at Adelaide University, his thesis 'Immersivity and Fidelity: Architecture, Design and Game Engines' investigates the application of game design thinking and game-engine technologies to enhance architectural design processes and education. This research underpins his collaboration with architects, game designers, and colleagues on SiteSeer, a desktop-based virtual construction site platform that facilitates construction literacy, design communication, and accessible site-based learning without physical visits. His broader academic interests encompass immersive learning environments, generative AI-supported workflows, and curriculum design. Lymn-Penning has co-authored key publications, including 'Adjacencies of the Real: Scholastic Construction in the Twenty-First Century' (2025, Springer), 'Virtual Site Visits through Gamification for AEC Students: Perspectives on Practice' (2024, ACM SIGGRAPH Asia), and the report 'Is AI Revolutionising the Future of Architecture and Design for Better or Worse?' (2024, University of South Australia). His contributions have earned recognition through awards such as the UniSA Unstoppable Early-Career Teaching Award (2025), Australian Institute of Architects (SA) Prize for Research Integration (2019), Woods Bagot Grant in Architecture (2018/19), and Gavin Walkley Memorial Grant in Architecture (2018). He is a founding committee member of Adelaide Design Week, and holds memberships in the Australian Institute of Architects SA Chapter and the Association of Architecture Schools of Australasia.
