Anne M. Giangiulio is an Associate Professor of Graphic Design in the Department of Art at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). She earned a BA in English from Villanova University in 1995 and an MFA in Graphic and Interactive Design from Temple University’s Tyler School of Art in 2004. Prior to joining UTEP in late 2004, she taught a summer design workshop at Tyler’s Tokyo campus. At UTEP, she teaches all levels of graphic design and has earned tenure. Her research specializations lie in graphic design, particularly posters responding to current events on topics like gun violence, global migration, women’s rights, civic participation, COVID-19, and the Ukraine conflict. Employing bold colors—black, white, red, and blue—and direct messaging, her works have been featured in international exhibitions such as the 17th Bienal Internacional del Cartel in Mexico City (2022), Times Square’s Poster For__ (2025), and biennials in Sofia, Beijing, and Indonesia. Selections are held in Poster House NYC’s permanent collection and UTEP’s ScholarWorks.
Giangiulio’s contributions have been honored with multiple Gold and Silver ADDY Awards (2005–2015), Graphis Silver Awards for posters and designs (2021–2024), PRINT Awards first and second places (2020–2025), and finalist positions in international biennials. Institutionally, she was a top-three finalist for UTEP’s Minnie Stevens Piper Professor Award (2021) and a semi-finalist for the High Impact and Innovative Teaching Award (2025). Key publications include the forthcoming Rotulistas: Sign Painters of El Paso (UTEP Press) and a 2025 article in Behavioral Sciences, “Leveraging an arts-based approach to foster engagement, cultivate kindness, and prevent violence.” Award-winning designs encompass books like Remember Dippy (2014) and Ysleta del Sur Pueblo Year-End Reports (2019–2023). Her influence extends through mentoring students in civic design projects, enhancing community impact via graphic design.
