Anthony Triolo is Professor and Director of the Center for Wine and Gastronomy at the Institute for American Universities (IAU) in Aix-en-Provence, France. He has served as a professor at IAU since 2005, becoming the ACM Wine Studies Coordinator in 2022, and acts as chief viticulturalist and vintner for the institution's academic programs, including oversight of IAU's vineyard planted with Cinsault, Grenache, and Syrah grapes. A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Triolo has been active in the wine industry since 2015, working as a vineyard manager, cellar master, and winemaker in the Santa Cruz Mountains AVA of California and abroad. His career integrates practical expertise in sustainable and organic viticulture with academic instruction in International Relations, Environmental Politics, Eco-gastronomy, and Global Wine Studies.
Triolo earned a Bachelor’s degree Summa Cum Laude in International Affairs from the American University of Paris and a Master’s degree in Strategic Studies from Université Paul Valéry III, Montpellier, in conjunction with the Institut d’Études Politiques in Aix-en-Provence, France. He holds a WSET Level 3 Wines certification and a professional diploma in Viticulture and Enology from UC Davis, and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Sustainable Development and Diplomacy at Euclid University. His scholarly interests center on the relationship between international security and the global environmental crisis, with particular emphasis on sustainable agriculture, biodynamic viticulture and winemaking, the concept of terroir as both a sense of place and a philosophy, and agriculture’s role in addressing humanity’s interaction with the land. Fluent in English and French, Triolo leads initiatives such as J-Term seminars on Wine, Gastronomy, and Sustainability of the Mediterranean, contributing to IAU’s interdisciplinary programs that blend academic inquiry with experiential learning in the heart of Provençal terroir.
