Belinda Evans serves as an instructor at Adelaide University within the School of Allied Health and Human Performance. She contributes to the delivery of Radiation Therapy Clinical Practice 3 (RADI 4011), an undergraduate course offered at the Adelaide City Campus East. This 12-unit course emphasizes work-integrated learning through 225 hours of clinical placement, enabling students to build intermediate practical and professional skills essential for radiation therapy practice. Key areas covered include external beam radiation therapy treatment and planning, comprehensive patient care, radiation safety measures, effective teamwork, adherence to national protocols and quality assurance programs, accurate documentation, ethical decision-making, and reflective practice. Students are expected to demonstrate clinical competencies with minimal supervision, solve problems in real-time clinical scenarios, and perform treatment procedures proficiently.
In addition to her teaching role, Belinda Evans has been actively involved in clinical research within radiation oncology in Adelaide. She participated in the RT Prepare trial, a multi-site randomized controlled study evaluating a radiation therapist-delivered psycho-educational intervention designed to prepare breast cancer patients for radiotherapy. The intervention proved effective in reducing psychological distress and improving preparation for treatment, with results published in 2018. Subsequent analysis on the cost-effectiveness of RT Prepare was also conducted across sites in Perth, Melbourne, and Adelaide. Furthermore, Belinda Evans has contributed to professional discourse on continuing professional development for radiation practitioners, including a site visit report to the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto, featured in the Journal of Medical Radiation Sciences in 2016. Her work underscores a commitment to enhancing patient outcomes and practitioner education in radiation therapy.
