Bryce D. McLeod, Ph.D., is a Professor of Psychology in the Department of Psychology at Virginia Commonwealth University, where he also directs the Child/Adolescent Concentration in the Clinical Psychology Program and leads the CREATE Laboratory. He earned a B.A. in Psychology with High Distinction from the University of Virginia in 1995, an M.A. in Clinical Psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1998, and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from UCLA in 2004, with a minor in Measurement and Psychometrics, followed by a clinical internship at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute. McLeod joined VCU in 2004 as a Psychologist at the Virginia Treatment Center for Children and Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry. He transitioned to Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology in 2007, became Associate Professor in 2012, and Professor in 2019. He has held leadership roles including Director of the Autism Clinic from 2009 to 2014, Director of Clinical Training from 2021 to 2022, Co-Director of Clinical Training from 2022 to 2023, and Faculty Member of the Clark-Hill Institute for Positive Youth Development since 2012. Additionally, he serves as Visiting Professor of Paediatrics at the National University of Singapore since 2020.
McLeod's research program integrates science and practice to enhance youth mental health services in community settings, focusing on treatment fidelity measurement, training and consultation optimization, and implementation and sustainment of evidence-based practices, particularly in schools. His funded projects include the Pragmatic Integrity in School-Based Measurement study and others evaluating school-based interventions. He has received major grants such as a four-year $1.8 million R01 from the National Institute of Mental Health for identifying key fidelity indicators in measurement-based care for youth. Select publications include the meta-analysis 'The relation of the alliance with outcomes in youth psychotherapy: A meta-analysis' (Clinical Psychology Review, 2011), 'Proposing a mechanistic model of training and consultation' (Clinical Psychology: Science and Practice, 2018), and co-editing 'Diagnostic and Behavioral Assessment in Children and Adolescents' (Guilford Press, 2013). Awards include the VCU Department of Psychology Outstanding Research Award in 2011, Outstanding Service Award in 2016, and NIH Clinical Research Loan Repayment Awards from 2006 to 2013. His contributions advance implementation science and train applied researchers.
