About Candice

Candice Harris is a Professor of Management at Auckland University of Technology in the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law, where she also serves as Head of the Management Department. She completed her PhD at Victoria University of Wellington in 2002 with a thesis titled Women and Power: a Study of New Zealand Women Business Travellers. Harris joined the faculty at Auckland University of Technology and was promoted to full professor in 2018.

Her research focuses on employee career experiences, gender and work, academic careers, and women's career development, with particular attention to gendered experiences in paid and unpaid work. In 2018 she received one of AUT's inaugural Vice-Chancellor's Diversity Awards for contributions in the area of gender and diversity. In 2025 she was honoured with the Te Manahua NZ Universities Women in Leadership Excellence Award. Harris has been a member of the Universities New Zealand Women in Leadership Steering Group since 2009 and has served as its co-chair since 2023. She is also co-chair of the Council for Australasian Tourism and Hospitality Education Fellows. Among her publications is the co-edited book Tourism and Gender: Embodiment, Sensuality and Experience (2007) and numerous journal articles on topics including leadership development for women, hospitality careers, and work-life balance.
