Professor Carmen Bucher serves as a faculty member in the English and Communications Department at Miami Dade College's North Campus, where she has been affiliated since 1994. Beginning her tenure in various staff and administrative roles, she transitioned to teaching writing and literature courses, as well as leadership in the Honors College. Her dedication to student success is evident in her role as Co-Advisor for the Sigma Kappa Delta English Honors Society and the acclaimed Axis Creative Arts Magazine, which she has guided since Volume 10. Through her mentoring, Bucher emphasizes communication skills tailored to individual student needs, fostering self-actualization via personal stories and academic growth. She also contributes as a faculty mentor for the Humanities Edge Undergraduate Research Symposium, supporting student scholarly pursuits in the humanities.
Bucher's advisory work with Axis has significantly elevated its profile, securing a string of national and state awards. Notable achievements include the Associated Collegiate Press 2024 Literary Magazine Pacemaker Award (First Place, Volume 21), Columbia Scholastic Press Association Gold Crown Awards for Print Literary Magazine (Volumes 20 and 21), Associated Collegiate Press Pacemaker Awards (Volumes 17, 18, 19), College Media Association Pinnacle Awards (First Place Volume 20, Third Place Volume 19), and multiple Florida College System Publications Association honors such as First Place for Overall Design, Cover Design, Staff Pages, and Contents Page (Volume 21).
