Christine L. Kempton, MD, MSc, is Professor in the Department of Hematology and Medical Oncology and the Department of Pediatrics at Emory University School of Medicine. She directs the Hemophilia of Georgia Center for Bleeding and Clotting Disorders of Emory, holds the HoG, Inc. Director's Chair in Hemostasis, and serves as Vice Chair for Faculty Development in the Department of Hematology and Medical Oncology. Specializing in the treatment of hemostatic and thrombotic disorders as well as platelet disorders, Dr. Kempton began practicing with Emory Healthcare in 2005. She earned her MD from Mayo Clinic School of Medicine in 1997 and her Master of Science in Clinical Research from Emory University. Dr. Kempton completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Oregon Health & Science University Hospital in 2000, during which she served as Chief Resident, and her fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at University of North Carolina Hospitals in 2004. She is board certified in Hematology by the American Board of Internal Medicine since 2004 and maintains memberships in the American Society of Hematology, Hemostasis and Thrombosis Research Society, and International Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis.
Dr. Kempton's research specializations include complications of hemophilia and novel treatments of congenital and acquired bleeding disorders, with emphasis on health services and outcomes research focused on hemophilia and other rare bleeding disorders. Her sponsored research projects encompass a cross-sectional analysis of cardiovascular disease in the hemophilia population, the BH29884-ACE910 phase III clinical trial, Community Counts public health surveillance for bleeding disorders, and post-marketing safety evaluation of Obizur for acquired hemophilia A. She received the Young Investigator Award from the International Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis in 2003 and participated in the American Society of Hematology Clinical Research Training Institute. Key publications are 'Race, Ethnicity, and Hemophilia: A Scoping Review' (2023), 'Defining the impact of immune tolerance induction on health care use and patient-reported outcomes in persons with severe hemophilia A' (2024), 'Management of comorbidities in haemophilia' (2021), and 'Inhibitors in previously treated patients: A review of the literature' (2010). Her scholarly work has notably influenced the field of bleeding disorder management.
