About Christopher

Christopher Henrich is professor and chair of psychology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He earned a B.A. from the University of Chicago and a Ph.D. from Yale University. Prior to joining UAB in 2021, he served on the faculty at Georgia State University for 20 years, including six years as chair of its Department of Psychology.

Dr. Henrich’s research focuses on youth development, resilience, motivation and achievement, violence exposure, school safety, and longitudinal methodology. He examines how factors such as different forms of violence exposure and social support interact to influence youths’ academic and behavioral adjustment and well-being, with particular attention to development during key educational and ecological transitions and among at-risk populations. Current projects include collaboration with colleagues at Georgia State University evaluating a skills mastery and resilience training program developed by the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, and collaboration with WestEd on a National Institute of Justice Comprehensive School Safety Initiative in the Atlanta Public Schools.
