Claudine Davidshofer serves as Associate Professor of Philosophy in the Department of Religion and Philosophy at High Point University, where she joined the faculty as an instructor in 2014. She earned a B.A. in Philosophy and French Language and Culture from Colby College, a Master of Arts in Philosophy from Emory University, and a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Emory University. Throughout her career at High Point University, Davidshofer has contributed to the philosophy program within the School of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences, advancing to her current associate professorship.
Davidshofer specializes in 19th century philosophy, particularly Hegel and Kierkegaard, history of philosophy, metaphysics, existentialism, and philosophy of religion. Her research interests focus on 19th century philosophy, metaphysics, existentialism, and philosophy of religion across the history of philosophy, exploring themes of motion, modality, time and eternity, dialectics, the relationship between metaphysics and existence, and the metaphysical and existential foundations of philosophy of religion. She teaches courses such as Business Ethics, Sacred Experiences in World Religions, Medieval Philosophy and Theology, Contemporary Continental Philosophy, Political Philosophy, and Philosophy of Religion. Key publications include “Kierkegaard’s Critique of Hegel’s Dialectical Method: On Negation and Mediation” in the International Philosophical Quarterly (Volume 64, Issue 3, 2024, pp. 317-336) and “Kierkegaard’s Response to the Hegelian Necessity of the Past” in the International Philosophical Quarterly (61:2, 2021, pp. 189-206). Davidshofer has presented her scholarship at conferences including the Princeton Project in Philosophy and Religion Spring Conference in 2023 and chaired sessions at American Philosophical Association meetings.
