Dr. Craig Whitsed is an Adjunct Professor in the School of Education, Faculty of Humanities at Curtin University. He graduated with a Bachelor of Education in 1989 and a Master of Education in 1997. Whitsed completed his PhD in the School of Education at Murdoch University, with a thesis titled "Standing in the genkan: Adjunct foreign English language teachers in the Japanese higher education internationalisation context," supervised by Professor Simone Volet and Associate Professor Peter Wright. His career includes teaching in high schools in Australia and the United Kingdom, and ten years living in Japan, where he taught Australian Cultural Studies and English as a Lecturer at Doshisha University and Kindai University from 1995 to 2005. From 2006 to 2017, he held progressive roles at Murdoch University's Centre for University Teaching and Learning, including Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, and Lead Advisor Academic Staff Development Learning and Teaching.
At Curtin University, Whitsed teaches higher education pedagogy and Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), serving as Course Coordinator for the Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education Innovative Learning and Teaching. He coordinates units such as EDHE5007 The Learning Cycle: Design and Curriculum, EDHE5010 Research for the Scholarship of Learning and Teaching, EDHE5008 Design Thinking and Educational Innovation, EDHE5011 Teaching Portfolio, and EDMC500 Perspectives on Educational Research. His research specializations include higher education internationalisation, internationalisation of the curriculum, academic staff engagement, and teaching and learning in higher education.
