Professor Daniel Gucciardi is a Professor in the Curtin School of Allied Health, Faculty of Health Sciences, at Curtin University. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) from The University of Western Australia (2005) and a Doctor of Philosophy from the same institution (2009). Gucciardi's academic career commenced as a Research Fellow in the Centre for Behavioural Research in Cancer Control at Curtin University (2008-2009). He then served as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the School of Human Movement Studies at The University of Queensland (2010-2012), during which he received the ResTeach Award and UQ Postdoctoral Research Fellowship. Upon returning to Curtin University, he advanced from Senior Lecturer in the School of Physiotherapy and Exercise Science (2013-2014) and Senior Research Fellow (2015) to Associate Professor (2016-2021), before assuming his current professorial role (2022-present).
Gucciardi's research focuses on the personal, social, and contextual determinants of human performance and health behaviours within contexts of stress, encompassing mental toughness, resilience, team dynamics, behavioural perseverance, values, and motivation at the interfaces of sport, education, and the workplace. Key publications include the co-edited book Mental Toughness in Sport: Developments in Theory and Research (Routledge, 2011) and the article Mental toughness: progress and prospects (Current Opinion in Psychology, 2017). His contributions have earned numerous accolades, such as the Curtin Research Fellowship (2015-2019), Early Career Research Award from the Faculty of Health Sciences, Curtin University (2014), Early Career Research Award from the Australian Psychological Society (2013), Endeavour Research Fellowship (2011), Valedictorian of the Faculty of Life and Physical Sciences at The University of Western Australia (2009), Whitfeld Fellowship (2008), and University Postgraduate Award (2007-2008). Gucciardi holds editorial positions as Associate Editor of the International Review of Sport and Exercise Psychology (2021-present) and serves on the editorial boards of Psychology of Sport and Exercise (2016-present) and Sport, Exercise and Performance Psychology (2021-present).
