Dr. Daniella Forster is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Education at the University of Newcastle, Australia, within the College of Human and Social Futures. She earned her PhD in Teacher Education from Monash University in 2011, a Bachelor of Arts (Honours, first class) from Monash University in 2002 specializing in Philosophy and Bioethics, a Bachelor of Arts from Monash University, and a Graduate Diploma in Education from the University of Melbourne in 2003. Her career includes teaching secondary Philosophy, Theory of Knowledge (I.B.), and English at Lauriston Girls' School from 2005 to 2007, and serving as Coordinator on a part-time contract at the Monash University Centre for Public Philosophy from 2004 to 2008. She joined the University of Newcastle as a Lecturer in the School of Education in 2009, advancing to Senior Lecturer, and currently holds the position of Research Ethics Advisor in the School of Education.
Dr. Forster's research specializations encompass educational ethics, epistemology, moral injury, normative case study methodology, professional codes of conduct, teacher professionalism, ethical dilemmas in education, ethics in teacher education, philosophy of education, moral psychology, virtue ethics and epistemology, values education, teacher education and professional development, curriculum and pedagogy theory, and history and philosophy of education. She has received major awards including the Research Advantage Equity Fellowship (2025), ADVANCE Research Fellowship (2025-2026), DVC(A) Educator Innovation and Impact Award (2020), Centre for Excellence for Equity in Higher Education Early Career Researcher Development Grant (2016), and a Visiting Scholar appointment at Harvard Graduate School of Education (2023). Dr. Forster serves as Vice President of the Philosophy of Education Society of Australasia (2023) and was a member representative on its Executive Committee (2015-2017). Her key publications include "Philosophy of education in a new key" (2025), "Using Codes of Professional Ethics and Conduct in Teacher Education: Pitfalls and Best Practice" (2023), "Codes of Professional Ethics and Conduct in Teaching" (2022, 2020), "Professional ethics in Australian teaching and teacher education: Tensions and aspirations" (2020), "Codes of ethics in Australian education: Towards a national perspective" (2012), and "The moral imagination in pre-service teachers ethical reasoning" (2013).
