Dr Deborah Green serves as Associate Professor of Education and Social Wellbeing and Senior Lecturer in the School of Education within the College of Education, Behavioural and Social Sciences at Adelaide University. A Senior Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy, she is recognized as a leading Initial Teacher Education scholar. Her research specializes in bullying prevention, encompassing persistent bullying, cyberbullying, children at risk, childhood resilience, student wellbeing, peer relationships, behaviour and classroom management, humanities and social science education, inclusive practices, and children with special educational needs. With over a decade of experience, she leads projects that translate research into practical wellbeing solutions for schools, communities, and policymakers, addressing complex bullying dynamics and associated youth mental health outcomes. Green designs and delivers high-quality teaching in humanities and social science education and student wellbeing, preparing future teachers for safe, inclusive learning environments. She frequently serves as a subject matter expert for state and national frameworks, curricula, and Initial Teacher Education accreditation panels.
Deborah Green chairs the Education Futures Teaching and Learning Strategy Group and holds positions as Executive Secretary of the Social and Citizenship Education Association of Australia and inaugural Vice Chair of the Humanities and Social Science Association of Australia. She engages in collaborative work across sectors to influence policy and drive change through co-participatory practices and youth voice. Her key publications include co-edited books such as Making Humanities and Social Sciences Come Alive: Early Years and Primary Education (Cambridge University Press, 2nd ed., 2025; 1st ed., 2019), Teaching to Transform Learning: Pedagogies for Inclusive, Responsive and Socially Just Education (Cambridge University Press, 2024), and Multiple Perspectives in Persistent Bullying: Capturing and Listening to Young People's Voices (Routledge, 2016). Prominent articles feature "Persistent bullying and the influence of turning points: learnings from an instrumental case study" (Pastoral Care in Education, 2024), "A qualitative meta-study of youth voice and co-participatory research practices: informing cyber/bullying research methodologies" (International Journal of Bullying Prevention, 2022), and "A qualitative exploration of cyber-bystanders and moral engagement" (Australian Journal of Guidance and Counselling, 2014). Green provides regular media commentary on bullying, cyberbullying, social media, and student wellbeing.
