Dimitrios Sakellariou is a professor in the Faculty of Bioscience Engineering at KU Leuven, affiliated with the Department of Microbial and Molecular Systems (M²S) and leading a research group in the Centre for Membrane Separations, Adsorption, Catalysis, and Spectroscopy for Sustainable Solutions (cMACS). His expertise encompasses magnetic resonance techniques, including nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and related methodologies. Sakellariou earned his B.S. degree in Chemistry and Physics from the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon in 1997, M.S. in nuclear and particle physics from Université Claude Bernard Lyon-1 in 1998, and Ph.D. in nuclear magnetic resonance from the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon in 2001 under Prof. Lyndon Emsley. His research group develops novel NMR methods for high-resolution and sensitivity in high-field NMR, portable NMR and MRI sensors, and relaxometry/diffusion studies in porous solids, targeting sustainable materials and processes. Notable achievements include securing a Starting European Research Council (ERC) Grant in 2008 for the R-EvolutioN-M-R project. Key publications feature 'Observation of 1H-1H J-couplings in fast magic-angle-spinning NMR spectra of powdered samples' (2024, Nature Communications), 'Determination of the Redox Ratio of Iron in a Diamagnetic Silicate Glass Using Paramagnetic Shifts' (2024, Analytical Chemistry), 'In situ measurement of full adsorption isotherms by NMR' (2021, Nature Communications), and 'Carboxymethyl Cellulose Beads: A Low-Field NMR Relaxometry and Diffusometry Investigation' (2021).
