Professor Eleanor Bradley is a Professor of Health Psychology in the School of Health and Wellbeing at the University of Worcester. She earned a BSc (Hons) in Human Psychology from Loughborough University in 1995, an MSc in Counselling and Psychology from Manchester Metropolitan University in 1997, and a PhD in Health Psychology from Staffordshire University in 2001. She joined the University of Worcester in 2013, having previously served as Head of Research and Development for a large adult mental healthcare NHS Trust and as Professor of Healthcare Research and Evaluation at Staffordshire University. In her current roles, she is College Director of Research and Knowledge Exchange for the College of Life, Health and Environmental Sciences, Evaluation Hub Director, Associate Director for Research and Innovation at Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, and a member of the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Research Consortium and the Research and Development Expert Forum at Worcester Acute NHS Hospitals Research Group. She is a Chartered Psychologist and holds AFBPsS status with the British Psychological Society Division of Health Psychology.
Professor Bradley's research specializations encompass health psychology applications across healthcare settings, including patient experiences with long-term conditions such as adult mental ill-health, mental health nurse and pharmacist prescribing practices, patient confidentiality among mental health nursing students, psychological impacts of living with severe allergy post-anaphylaxis, and expertise in qualitative research methods like grounded theory and meta-synthesis. She co-chairs a qualitative research special interest forum and has led successful interdisciplinary research bids, such as the evaluation of an NHS Leadership Academy talent management initiative. As Principal Investigator for the NIHR-funded THRIVE programme tackling rural mental health inequalities and collaborator on the award-winning STARS programme supporting health professionals' research skills, her work fosters coproduction and evaluation expertise. Key publications include Sud et al. (2021) 'Bearing witness: A grounded theory of the experiences of staff at two United Kingdom Higher Education Institutions following a student death by suicide' in PLoS ONE; Chilton et al. (2021) “Lost time”: Patients with Early Inflammatory/Rheumatoid Arthritis and their Experiences of Delays in Primary Care in Musculoskeletal Care; and Bradley and Green (2018) 'Involved, inputting or informing: “Shared” decision making in adult mental health care' in Health Expectations. She supervises PhD students on diverse topics including perinatal mental health, physical activity in bipolar disorder, and staff experiences post-student suicide, chairs the Research Degrees Board, serves as a regular peer reviewer for journals, and acts as an external examiner for doctoral theses while contributing to National Institute for Health Research panels.
