Ginny Symons serves as Senior Lecturer in Community Engaged Medical Education at Griffith University School of Medicine. She has been in this role since 2010. Prior to joining Griffith University, she worked as a Registered Nurse at The Sutherland Hospital. Ginny Symons is recognized for her dedication to equipping medical students with practical learning experiences in cultural competence and Indigenous health. She has contributed to program sustainability efforts, including collaborations with the Aboriginal Centre for Performing Arts. Along with colleagues Dr Kwong Chan, Clinton Schultz, and Dr Jane MacLeod, she has been involved in facilitating workshops such as 'Talking with Indigenous patients' to support student development in these critical areas. Her work supports the Griffith University School of Medicine's commitment to community-engaged learning in a relatively young medical program.
Through her efforts, Ginny Symons helps foster meaningful interactions between students and Indigenous communities, enhancing the curriculum's focus on culturally safe practices in healthcare delivery.
