Mrs. Giselle Mafa is an Associate Lecturer in the School of Education within the Faculty of Humanities at Curtin University, operating from the Curtin Perth campus and under the portfolio of the Office of the Provost. As a PhD candidate at Curtin University, her research profile highlights expertise across critical educational domains: teaching and learning, pedagogy and education, curriculum development, professional development, teaching experience, educational evaluation, reflection, pre-service teachers, competency-based education, and affective learning. These interests underscore her focus on enhancing teacher preparation, pedagogical innovation, and effective classroom practices.
In her instructional role, Giselle Mafa coordinates EDS110: Managing the Learning Environment, instructing students on foundational concepts such as the Positive Learning Framework philosophy, optimal teacher-student relationships, appropriate degrees of control and coercion, and strategies for cultivating positive learning environments. She is pioneering the integration of artificial intelligence in education to alleviate administrative burdens. Her practical experiments show that AI, aligned with detailed rubrics, produces valuable, constructive, and non-attacking feedback comments, cutting preparation time for markers from over four hours to two hours. This innovation allows teachers to devote more energy to fostering creativity, motivation, and authentic human connections essential for student thriving.
Giselle Mafa extends her impact through professional development activities, including presenting a Source Analysis Workshop on May 11, 2019, affiliated with Hooked on Humanities. The session offered practical classroom ideas for supporting students in source analysis assessments and addressing key historical inquiry questions. She has also participated in the 2025 Learning Futures Challenge, collaborating with colleagues like Karen Murcia and others to explore forward-thinking educational models. Her work collectively advances the training of passionate pre-service teachers equipped for dynamic learning contexts.
