Greg Donovan is a practising artist and lecturer affiliated with the School of Art and Design in the College of Creative Arts, Design and Humanities at Adelaide University. His studio practice incorporates digital media, photography, and painting, exploring themes informed by his early life experiences in a public housing environment, including social inequality, notions of landscape, cultural displacement, and the transitory place of refugees within shifting economic and global contexts. Born in Australia in the early 1950s, Donovan has maintained a dual career as an exhibiting artist and educator since 1978. He began his academic tenure in visual arts at the University of South Australia in 1995, advancing to Adjunct Senior Lecturer and Postgraduate Research Supervisor at UniSA Creative. Previously, he served as Program Director for postgraduate programs in the School of Art, Architecture and Design.
Eligible to supervise Masters and PhD students at Adelaide University, Donovan has co-supervised higher degree by research candidates, contributing to visual arts scholarship through mentorship. His exhibitions encompass solo and group shows such as Queue Here (2009, UniSA), Parallax (2013, Kerry Packer Gallery, Adelaide), Yilan International Asia Pacific Invitational Printmaking Exhibition (2015, Yilan Museum of Art, Taiwan), Distant Image, embody-meant (2010, Flinders University Art Museum & City Gallery, Adelaide), Transmission (2007, SASA Gallery, University of South Australia), and Artisan with Toby Richardson (Flightpath Architects Gallery, Adelaide).
