Gregory Wilding, PhD, serves as Professor and Chair of the Department of Biostatistics in the School of Public Health and Health Professions at the University at Buffalo. He obtained his PhD in Statistics from the University of Rochester in 2003, an MA in Statistics from the same institution in 1998, and a BS degree in Mathematics, Business Administration, and Computer Science from The State University of New York College at Brockport in 1996. Wilding's career at the University at Buffalo began in 2002 as a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine. He advanced to Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Biostatistics in 2003, Assistant Professor from 2003 to 2009, and Associate Professor (tenured) since September 2009. In 2017, he was appointed Chair of the Department of Biostatistics. Additionally, since 2004, he has held progressive roles at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, including Associate Biostatistics Consultant (2004), Assistant Professor of Biostatistics and Oncology (2007), Associate Professor (2009), and Professor (2015). He currently serves as Vice Chair of the Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, Director of the Biostatistics Resource, and Director of the Clinical Trials and Translational Science Biostatistical Division at Roswell Park.
Wilding's research specializations encompass clinical trial design, permutation tests, resampling techniques, goodness-of-fit tests, distributional characterizations, copulas, tests of independence, and biostatistics. He has contributed key publications such as "Bootstrap and Permutation Methods Using the SAS System" (2007, technical report), "Empirical approximations for Hoeffding's test of bivariate independence using two Weibull extensions" (2008, Statistical Methodology), "Appropriateness of gamma models using characteristic independence of the mean and the coefficient of variation" (2008, Journal of Statistical Planning and Inference), and several others on statistical testing methodologies. His awards include the School of Public Health and Health Professions Outstanding Teacher of the Year (2006), American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Editors’ Award (2005), University of Rochester Medical Center Teaching Assistant Award (1998), and membership in honor societies. Wilding has chaired numerous doctoral and master's student committees, served on faculty search, admissions, and curriculum committees at UB, and contributed as a reviewer for statistical journals, enhancing biostatistics education and methodological advancements in the field.
