Hemantha Bandara is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, at the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) Malabe Campus, affiliated with Curtin University. His academic background includes a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Civil Engineering from the University of Moratuwa (2002), a Master of Business Administration in Project Management from the University of Moratuwa (2010), and a Master of Science in Construction Law and Dispute Resolution from the University of Moratuwa (2018). Bandara possesses over two decades of professional experience in civil engineering, project management, and finance. Since July 2021, he has held his current position at SLIIT. Previously, he served as Senior Project Manager at Qserve PMU Pvt. Ltd./Qserve Pvt. Ltd. (May 2012–June 2021), handling project management coordination and supervision. From March 2006 to May 2012, he was Project Relationship Manager/Project Analyst at Hatton National Bank PLC, Project Finance Division, specializing in financing for real estate, power and energy (including mini hydro, biomass, and wind projects), and leisure sectors. Earlier, he worked as Project Engineer at Singapore Piling & Civil Engineering Pvt. Ltd. (February 2005–March 2006), Planning Engineer at International Construction Consortium Pvt. Ltd. (August 2003–February 2005), and Project Engineer at Kelsey Development Pvt. Ltd. (May 2002–July 2003).
In parallel with his industry career, Bandara has extensive teaching experience on a part-time basis since 2013. He has been Senior Lecturer (Part Time) at Colombo School of Construction Technology in partnership with the University of Salford, UK (September 2014–present), teaching modules including Project Management, Construction Process Management, Procurement and Contract Administration, and Lean & Offsite Manufacturing; and with Birmingham City University, UK (March 2014–February 2016). Additional roles include Lecturer (Part Time) at University of Vocational Technology (March 2014–March 2016) for Construction Planning and Controlling, Visiting Lecturer at NorthShore College in partnership with the University of the West of England, UK (October 2013–April 2014) for Construction Planning and Economics, and Lecturer (Part Time) at Colombo School of Construction Technology and Advanced Construction Training Academy (2013–2015) for Supply Chain Management, Project Management, and Economics. His research interests focus on Construction Project Management, Carbon Estimating, Change Management, and Capacity Building. He contributes to industry-collaborative research, such as the project on aggressive river meandering issues of Deduru Oya with the Irrigation Department. Key publications comprise the journal article 'Understanding and Evaluating the Risk Factors Affecting in Financing of Mini Hydro Power Projects in Sri Lanka' (2010), conference proceedings paper 'Preliminary project cost estimation model using artificial neural networks for public sector office buildings in Sri Lanka' (2015), and ongoing work on an Effective Stakeholder Management Framework for Construction Projects in Sri Lanka (under review, International Journal of Construction Management).
