Holly Meyer is a Lecturer in Nursing within the School of Health at the University of the Sunshine Coast. She holds a Master of Midwifery from the University of the Sunshine Coast, a Graduate Diploma in Midwifery from the Australian Catholic University, and a Bachelor of Nursing from the Australian Catholic University. With a dedicated background as both a registered nurse and midwife, Meyer has practised in diverse clinical models, including tertiary healthcare settings, team midwifery, and private practice. She commenced her teaching career at the University of the Sunshine Coast in 2014, undertaking roles across all disciplines in the School of Health, where she particularly enjoys mentoring students in developing foundational knowledge in nursing and midwifery.
Meyer's teaching responsibilities span midwifery, nursing, and paramedicine, and she currently serves as the Program Coordinator for the Bachelor of Midwifery. Her research focuses on physiological birth, women's experiences of birth, midwifery, and obstetric practice. Key publications include the 2024 article 'Factors influencing midwives' intentions to facilitate normal physiological birth: A qualitative study,' co-authored with Nigel Lee, Kendall George, and Lauren Kearney, published in Women and Birth. She has also presented at conferences on related topics, such as 'How the intentions of maternity care providers influence normal physiological birth' in 2023 and 'Factors influencing intentions of midwives to facilitate normal physiological birth' in 2023. In recognition of her teaching excellence, Meyer is an Associate Fellow of AdvanceHE (AFHEA). Passionate about promoting physiological birth, women-centred care, and evidence-based practice, she contributes to advancing midwifery education and research at the institution.
