Dr. Ihsan Isik is a tenured Professor of International Banking and Finance in the Department of Accounting and Finance at Rowan University's Rohrer College of Business. In the field of Business & Economics, he specializes in international banking and finance. He holds a Ph.D. in Financial Economics and an M.A. in Economics from the University of New Orleans, an M.S. in Finance from Texas Tech University, and a B.S. in Management with honors from Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey. His academic career at Rowan University progressed from Assistant Professor (2001-2005) and Associate Professor (2005-2007) to Full Professor since June 2007. Prior roles include Assistant Professor of Finance and Accounting at New Jersey Institute of Technology (1999-2001) and Graduate Lecturer at the University of New Orleans (1996-1999). Earlier professional experience encompasses positions as Assistant Auditor at Arthur Andersen in Istanbul, Security Specialist at T.C. Ziraat Bank in Ankara, and internships in accounting and marketing.
Dr. Isik's research interests encompass financial institutions and markets, bank efficiency, financial crises, survival of financial institutions, emerging market evidence, Islamic finance, REITs, bank performance in transition economies, productivity in banking, financial access, barriers to finance, religion and finance, and the finance-growth nexus. His publications have appeared in premier journals including Journal of Banking & Finance (two papers ranked 12th and 17th most requested in 2002 and 2003), Journal of Financial Research, Financial Review, Journal of Business Finance & Accounting, Quarterly Review of Economics and Finance, Journal of Policy Modeling, Journal of Multinational Financial Management, and Journal of Economics and Finance. Highly cited works include 'Technical, scale and allocative efficiencies of Turkish banking industry' (2002, 929 citations) and 'Financial deregulation and total factor productivity change: An empirical study of Turkish commercial banks' (2003, 545 citations). He has received three Rowan Alumni Advisory Council Awards for Scholarly Achievement, multiple Wall of Fame Teaching Awards, best paper awards from conferences such as the European Applied Business Research Conference and Economic Research Forum, outstanding reviewer recognitions from journals like Journal of Financial Stability and Journal of Banking and Finance, and honorariums including 2,000 EURO from Economic Research Forum. Dr. Isik serves as Academic Research Fellow at Economic Research Forum, Chairman and CEO of the American Turkish Chamber of Commerce since 2010, and Advisor to the Central Bank of Turkey since 2005. His scholarship has garnered over 3,000 citations on Google Scholar.
