Rate My Professor Jason Enia

Enia's research examines the politics of low-probability, high-impact events, including nuclear weapons proliferation, natural disasters, international security, and Middle East politics. He applies political economy theories to analyze how institutions structure political incentives around these issues. Key publications include "Greasing the Wheels of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Regime: The Political Economy of Nuclear Suppliers Group Rules" (Journal of Global Security Studies, 2020), "Rules Versus Discretion: Comparing Disaster Declaration Institutions in the Philippines and Indonesia" (International Journal of Disaster Risk Reduction, 2016), "Regime Type, Peace, and Reciprocal Effects" with Patrick James (Social Science Quarterly, 2015), "The Spotty Record of the Hyogo Framework for Action: Understanding the Incentives of Natural Disaster Politics and Policy Making" (The Social Science Journal, 2013), and "The Relative Efficacy of the Biological & Chemical Weapon Regimes" with Jeffrey Fields (The Nonproliferation Review, 2014). His work has received over 200 citations. Awards include the Outstanding Research/Scholarship Award from SHSU's Department of Political Science (2011) and Best Paper from USC's Center for International Studies (2007). Enia served as President of the Active Learning in International Affairs Section of the International Studies Association (2015-2016), Vice President and Program Chair (2014-2015), and Secretary (2012-2014), and has been on the Editorial Board of International Studies Perspectives since 2014. He was co-Principal Investigator on a MacArthur Foundation grant for $300,000 (2016-2018) studying behavior within the nuclear nonproliferation regime.
