Dr. Jess Mitchell, professionally known as Dr. Jess Co, serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Management at Monash University's Faculty of Business and Economics. With more than 30 years of university teaching experience, she specializes in management, entrepreneurship, creativity, and innovation. Her extensive career includes positions at the University of Southern Queensland in Australia, the University of Reading, Oxford Brookes University, and University of Greenwich in the United Kingdom, the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa, Vaxjo University (now Linnaeus University) in Sweden, and De La Salle University in the Philippines. Prior to her current appointment, Mitchell worked as an educational designer with the Monash Business School's Teaching and Learning Team, where she contributed to curriculum and materials development for face-to-face, blended, and fully online delivery modes. She holds Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, reflecting her commitment to excellence in higher education pedagogy.
Mitchell's research focuses on entrepreneurship education, encompassing ethnic, youth, immigrant, and social entrepreneurship, alongside the integration of technology in education, gamification, and simulations. Key publications include 'Exploring students' perceptions and emotional responses to video and written feedback' (2024, with M.J. Co, A. Fenton, B. Mitchell, and P. Murphy), 'Game-changing education: assessing the influence of gamification on student engagement and academic achievement in higher education' (2024, with B. Mitchell and M.J. Her innovative approaches to teaching have earned her the Australian Awards for University Teaching (AAUT) 2023 Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning, Dean's Award for Innovation in Learning and Teaching (2019 and 2024), Dean's Award for Teaching Excellence (2023), and Vice-Chancellor's Award for Teaching Excellence (2024).
