Dr. Jessie Childs, PhD, Graduate Diploma in Medical Sonography, Bachelor of Health Science (Honours, Specialisation in Medical Radiations), is Senior Lecturer in Medical Sonography at the School of Allied Health and Human Performance, College of Health, Adelaide University. She brings extensive clinical expertise, having worked over fifteen years as a chief and tutor sonographer in multiple public and private practices across Australia. Childs entered academia in 2011 at the University of South Australia, where she served as a full-time lecturer and researcher before transitioning to her current position. Eligible to supervise Masters and PhD students, she contributes to postgraduate training in health sciences.
Childs's academic interests and research specializations encompass a wide range of ultrasound and sonography topics, including sonographic imaging of the ulnar nerve, methods for measuring liver volume and establishing normal reference intervals, peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) vein insertions, transvaginal ultrasound for endometriosis diagnosis, renal dialysis efficiency assessments, ultrasound safety, sonographer wellbeing amid COVID-19 impacts, gastroesophageal surgical access, and the development of new accreditation standards and competency frameworks for sonographers.
