Dr. Joe Hockley is an Adjunct Clinical Senior Lecturer at Curtin University School of Medicine, where he teaches and examines medical students. He graduated in medicine from the University of Newcastle in 2002 and completed his vascular surgical training, obtaining Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in Vascular Surgery in 2014. His training included positions at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney, Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Royal Perth Hospital, The Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh, and The Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane. He further enhanced his expertise with a mini-fellowship in Paediatric Vascular Surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London. Currently, he serves as a Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon and Supervisor of Vascular Training at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth. He is a key member of the State Sarcoma Service at the hospital, performing major arterial and venous reconstructions for soft-tissue tumours. Additionally, he provides vascular surgery services to Perth Children’s Hospital and King Edward Memorial Hospital. In private practice, he consults at the Hollywood Specialist Centre, St John of God Wexford Medical Centre in Murdoch, and Madeley, and operates at Hollywood Private Hospital, St John of God Murdoch Hospital, and Mount Hospital.
Dr. Hockley has over 10 years of clinical experience specializing in minimally invasive endovascular treatments for complex aortic and peripheral vascular diseases, including aneurysms and dissections in the abdomen and thorax. His interests encompass foot ulcers and diabetic foot management, thoracic outlet syndrome, comprehensive venous disorder care including endovenous and open procedures as well as endovascular management of chronic pelvic venous disease, renal access surgery, and extracranial carotid artery disease. He is actively involved in vascular research at the Heart and Vascular Research Institute within the Harry Perkins Institute at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. He has co-authored several peer-reviewed publications, including 'Inferior vena cava division with venous-venous bypass during en bloc lumbar spondylectomy' (2025), 'Current technology venous–venous bypass improves the safety of resection of sarcoma and benign retroperitoneal tumours involving the inferior vena cava' (2022), 'Aortoduodenal Fistula from Duodenal Stenting for Malignant Gastric Obstruction' (2022), 'Prone thoracic endovascular aortic repair via the popliteal artery for acute traumatic transection' (2023), 'Intravascular leiomyomatosis with extension to the inferior vena cava' (2023), and 'Hybrid treatment of an isolated immunoglobulin G4-related internal mammary artery aneurysm' (2019). Dr. Hockley is regularly invited to speak at national and international conferences on topics such as aneurysm repair and leg revascularisation, particularly new devices.
