Joseph Frenkel is a podiatrist and academic associated with Adelaide University in the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, serving as an instructor in the Clinical Podiatry Practice 300 course (PODI 3009) offered by the School of Allied Health and Human Performance. This advanced course consolidates students' clinical skills in the assessment and management of lower limb problems through supervised clinical practice, tutorials, and workshops conducted in diverse settings including aged care facilities, Diabetes Australia, Aboriginal Health services, and the Hutt Street Centre clinics. Under instructors such as Frenkel, students develop proficiency in advanced assessment techniques, clinical reasoning, patient education, wound management, applied pharmacology, and interprofessional collaboration. The clinical placements occur on specific Tuesdays from 2:10pm to 6:00pm during designated periods, emphasizing practical application in real-world environments.
Frenkel holds a Bachelor of Podiatry (B.Pod.) and a Master of Science (M.Sc.), specializing as a wound care podiatrist. He practices at heel me - podiatry + wound care and serves as Consulting Podiatrist at the Skin Health Institute, where he addresses foot, dermatological, and wound conditions in collaboration with dermatologists during monthly Nail Clinics. With over 20 years of clinical experience, he maintains academic roles, including Casual Academic in Podiatry at La Trobe University. His scholarly contributions include the publication 'The role of hyaluronan in wound healing' (2012), cited over 300 times, and 'Private wound practice - a growth area with challenges and opportunities' (2018). Frenkel reviews for medical journals, delivers presentations at local and international seminars, workshops, and conferences, and founded the Podiatric Dermatology Interest Group, a global Facebook community exceeding 3,100 members focused on dermatological aspects of podiatry.
