Josephine Faulkner is a Senior Lecturer in Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging (Large Animals) at Murdoch University’s School of Veterinary Medicine. She holds Diplomate status from the European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging (DipECVDI). In her role, she delivers lectures and practical sessions in diagnostic imaging for the Veterinary Science degree and contributes to resident training at The Animal Hospital at Murdoch University. Her professional interests encompass all imaging modalities, with particular emphasis on advanced imaging of orthopaedic cases and computed tomography of the head and neck. Currently, she is finalizing her PhD thesis, which investigates magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography of sagittal groove disease in the equine proximal phalanx. Prior affiliations include Ghent University, where she conducted research during her imaging residency, reflected in publications such as “Auxiliary osseous findings in fetlocks of non-racing sports horses” (2025) and “Low-field magnetic resonance imaging of sagittal groove disease” (2025).
Faulkner’s research focuses on veterinary radiology, including artificial intelligence applications and equine orthopaedics. Key publications from her time at Murdoch University include “Commentary: Comparison of radiological interpretation made by veterinary radiologists and state-of-the-art commercial AI software for canine and feline radiographic studies” (2025, with S.K. Joslyn, D. Ma, and R. Appleby) and “Clinical and imaging findings, treatment details and outcomes in horses with desmitis of the accessory ligament of the deep digital flexor tendon” (recent, with V.A. Colgate et al.). She collaborates with VET.CT teleradiology services and delivers webinars, such as “X-Ray Vision: Equine Radiography and Radiology for Early Career Equine Vets” for Equine Veterinarians Australia (2026). Her work supports clinical training innovations, including virtual reality tools for equine radiography education. Faulkner graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2013 with a veterinary degree and completed a rotating internship post-graduation before pursuing specialization.
