Mr. Joti Weijers-Coghlan serves as a Lecturer in Architecture (Student Design and Construction Program) within the School of Architecture and Built Environment, College of Creative Arts, Design and Humanities at Adelaide University. He coordinates the Design Construct Program, an experiential learning program which teaches students through the design and construction of live projects in remote or underserved communities. Weijers-Coghlan has international experience in hands-on project delivery, including volunteer work with Emergency Architects supervising post-tsunami reconstruction in Indonesia, and design construct experience in Australia, Sweden, the Netherlands, Cambodia and Vanuatu. Currently, he teaches the final year construction studio in the Bachelor of Architectural Studies while coordinating a range of student design construct projects.
Weijers-Coghlan is a PhD candidate at the University of Tasmania undertaking research into the integration of design-build education within academic contexts to provide tangible educational benefits to students within architecture and cognate disciplines. His publications include the journal article 'Architectural Education in Unfamiliar Territory: The Fish River Aboriginal Ranger Accommodation Project' with D. Kroll, D. Morris and A. Brambilla (Charrette, 8(1), 59-77, 2022), and 'Attempting to define design-build education in architecture' with L. Wallis, R. Burnham and N. Kotlarewski (ARCHNET-IJAR International Journal of Architectural Research, 2026). Conference papers feature 'Thermal performance of student-built naturally ventilated remote accommodation in Fish River, NT' with D. Kroll and A. Brambilla (Architectural Science Association, 2022), and 'Making do. Enhanced architectural education through pedagogical, cultural, and environmental contrasts' with D. Morris (Association of Architectural Educators, 2017). Original creative works comprise 'Port Resolution eco tourist accommodation' and 'Fish River Ranger Accommodation', both designed and constructed with D. Morris (2020 and 2018 respectively). He received funding for 'Prototyping and evaluation of innovative construction solutions for very remote design-build projects: Weavers Hut amenities' from MF Jebsen Australia Pty Ltd (2023-2025).
