Dr. Katherine Christ is a Senior Lecturer in Accounting in the School of Accounting and Finance, College of Business and Law at Adelaide University. She holds a PhD in environmental accounting focusing on water management in the Australian wine industry, a First Class Honours Degree in Commerce, and is a full member of CPA Australia. Previously a Senior Lecturer in Accounting at UniSA Business, she has undertaken visiting academic roles as Visiting Research Fellow at Leuphana University, Germany (2025), Technische Universität Dresden, Germany (2023), and Visiting Professor at University of Brescia, Italy (2022). Eligible to supervise Masters and PhD students and available for media comment, Christ is committed to delivering high-quality education and research with real-world impact.
Katherine Christ's research specializations encompass accounting for modern slavery risk and management in business operations and supply chains, sustainability accounting, environmental management accounting, water accounting, and Material Flow Cost Accounting. Founder of the South Australian Modern Slavery Research and Practitioner Network, she engages regularly with stakeholders on modern slavery. She has obtained funding from CPA Australia for a Modern Slavery Compass, AFAANZ for investigating gender in modern slavery reporting, and previously from the Australian Grape and Wine Authority. Her publications feature in top-tier journals such as Business Horizons ("Modern slavery due diligence: A framework for business", 2026, with R.L. Burritt), International Journal of Management Reviews ("Corporate sustainability management accounting and multi-level links for sustainability - a systematic review", 2022, with S. Schaltegger et al.), Journal of Business Ethics ("Multinational Enterprise Strategies for Addressing Sustainability: the Need for Consolidation", 2020, with R.L. Burritt et al.), Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal ("Accounting for modern slavery: an analysis of Australian listed company disclosures", 2019, with R.L.
