Kwangok Song is an associate professor in the Department of Curriculum and Teaching at the University of Kansas, where she joined the faculty in the fall of 2017. She earned an MA and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Texas at Austin in 2012, specializing in language and literacy studies. Song's research examines sociocultural factors and sociocognitive aspects of literacy and learning, with a focus on emergent bilingual students' language use and literacy practices in and out-of-school contexts. Her key interests encompass bilingual and biliteracy practices, out-of-school literacy, digital literacy, classroom discussions, online discussions, and discourse analysis. She utilizes qualitative methods, including discourse analysis and ethnographic approaches. At KU, Song teaches undergraduate literacy methods courses for elementary grades, as well as literacy assessment and theories of reading.

Song co-chairs Area 8 (Literacy Learning and Practice in Multilingual and Multicultural Settings) at the Literacy Research Association.
