Dr Leana Coleman is a Lecturer in Science and Mathematics Education in the School of Education, College of Education, Behavioural and Social Sciences at Adelaide University. She teaches and coordinates primary and secondary mathematics and science courses, as well as professional experience units for preservice teachers. With over a decade of experience in schools as a teacher and curriculum coordinator, she specializes in middle school science and mathematics, and senior biology and chemistry. Her practical background informs her approach to preparing future educators for effective classroom practice.
Coleman holds a Graduate Diploma of Education and a first-class Honours degree in Physiology from the University of Adelaide, and a PhD exploring how expert teachers enact curriculum to foster critical and creative thinking in lower secondary science classrooms. Her research interests include nutritional science, science education, and curriculum enactment for critical and creative thinking in lower secondary science. She has published research in nutritional science and science education, including the 2002 paper 'A diet containing α-cellulose and fish oil reduces aberrant crypt foci formation and modulates other possible markers for colon cancer risk in azoxymethane-treated rats' in the Journal of Nutrition.
