Lee Ingram serves as a Lecturer in Graphic Design at Curtin University’s School of Design and the Built Environment, part of the Faculty of Humanities. As a graduate of Curtin Design, he has been passionately teaching at his alma mater for the past 26 years, guiding students through the intricacies of graphic design, creative strategy, and the design process. Ingram emphasizes the value of learning how to learn as the most essential skill, fostering internal motivation in students to question conventions, push creative boundaries, and transform their passions into sustainable careers. His own journey exemplifies this philosophy, blending academic instruction with real-world application in the dynamic field of sneaker culture and design.
Ingram’s extensive personal sneaker collection, comprising around 1,200 pairs across multiple brands with ASICS forming a significant portion, underscores his deep expertise. This passion propelled him into a professional role at the global sneaker brand ASICS, secured after a viral social media post depicting a throne built from ASICS sneakers. He traveled to Amsterdam to design a commemorative poster marking the 25th anniversary of the iconic ASICS Gel-Lyte III sneaker. In 2017, Ingram was appointed 'Sneakerhead in Residence' for the Art Gallery of Western Australia’s exhibition 'The Rise of Sneaker Culture,' where he hosted panel discussions, delivered special talks, and collaborated with Curtin students on designing an iconic Western Australian sneaker. Furthermore, he contributes to the Perth Urban Research Lab (PURL), co-presenting 'Perth Urban Research Lab: A Platform for a Community of Practice' at the 2023 WA Teaching and Learning Forum alongside colleagues. Ingram’s multifaceted career highlights the intersection of graphic design education, cultural enthusiasm, and practical industry engagement.
