Mamata Parhi serves as Reader in Economics and Finance and Head of the Accounting, Finance, Economics, and Governance (AFEG) Subject Group within Roehampton Business School at the University of Roehampton, having joined the institution in July 2015. Her academic journey includes a PhD in Economics and Policy Studies of Technical Change from UNU-MERIT at the University of Maastricht, Netherlands, awarded with a United Nations University Scholarship. She earned an MPhil in Economics with First Class honors from the Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi, and an MSc in Analytical and Applied Economics from Utkal University, India, where she was bestowed the University Gold Medal for the best achievement across all disciplines. Parhi is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). Before Roehampton, she was Senior Lecturer and previously Lecturer at Swansea University’s Wales Institute of Social and Economic Research, Data and Methods (WISERD), Researcher at the University of Strasbourg, France, and Consultant at the National Institute for Public Finance and Policy in India.
Parhi’s research expertise spans empirical industrial organization, economics of innovation, spatial economics, applied macroeconomics, and finance, with projects funded by the Netherlands Science Organization, Welsh Assembly Government, European Science Foundation, and EPSRC. Notable publications encompass "A Refinement of Macroeconomy-Housing Price Equilibrium: Walking Down Long Memory Lane" (Real Estate Economics, 2025, co-authored with K. Duan, S. Wolfe, T. She has garnered awards including Best Paper Award (International, First Runner Up, 2024) and Best Research Paper Award (2015). As Associate Editor of the International Journal of Finance and Economics, Parhi contributes to academic discourse through editorial roles, invited keynotes such as "Publishing and Impact: The knowns and the Unknowns" (2025), and conference presentations. Her research has influenced public discussions, featured in media on inheritance tax implications for South Asians and NHS medication prescribing inefficiencies.
