Margie Kenny serves as a Lecturer in Communication Design in the School of Art and Design, College of Creative Arts, Design and Humanities at Adelaide University. In her current role within UniSA Creative, she coordinates and teaches courses such as GRAP 2011 Design for Publication, GRAP 1018 Computer Graphics and Imaging for Design, and UO GRAP 1027 Digital Graphics and Imaging, for which she is the Course Coordinator. She also teaches GRAP 1004 Digital Design Principles and Methods, GRAP 1019 Introductory Drawing for Design, and GRAP 1017 Design Foundation Studio, associated with programs like the Bachelor of Graphic Communication Design. Having worked in Communication Design since the early 1990s, primarily in the fields of health and education, Kenny contributes to the UniSA Creative Design for Health and Wellbeing research cluster, fostering design collaborations with health and wellbeing projects across the university and with external industry and communities. Her teaching strengths include Computer Graphics and Drawing.
Kenny's research focuses on non-traditional outputs through the publication and exhibition of drawings and illustrative artwork centered on conservation and the natural environment. She explores both hand-drawn and digitally produced work for print and screen, with interests in cross-disciplinary collaboration for science communication via graphic design and illustration, particularly in plant science, taxonomy, botany, horticulture, and entomology. Her work aims to depict plant forms and habitats compellingly to reconnect humans with nature, raise awareness, and prompt action against biodiversity loss. Key creative works include Spring wildflowers - Adelaide Hills (2023), Inspiration grows here (2021), Like peas in a pod (2020), Silent offerings (2018), A flurry of foliage (2017), Summer pond (2016), and Across the dunes, Normanville (2009). She has curated or produced exhibitions such as Connected (2016, Gallery 1855), Essence of Place (2014, Hahndorf Academy, co-curated), and Syntax (2011). Kenny is available for media comment.
