Professor Maria Raciti, a Kalkadoon-Thaniquith-Bwgcolman woman, serves as Professor of Marketing in the School of Business and Creative Industries at the University of the Sunshine Coast. She earned her PhD from Central Queensland University and is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (UK). In her leadership roles, she is Co-Director of the UniSC Indigenous and Transcultural Research Centre, Co-Theme Leader of the education and economies theme in the ARC Centre of Excellence for Indigenous Futures, and a member of the ARC College of Experts. Raciti's research integrates Indigenous methodologies with mainstream disciplines in social marketing, transformative services marketing, Indigenous business methodologies, and higher education equity. Her work prioritises relational approaches, amplifying community voices and translating findings into policy, practice, and community impact, aligning with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and Australia's Closing the Gap priorities.
Throughout her career, Raciti has held significant appointments including Honorary Professor at the University of Queensland (2025-present), Research Fellow at the National Centre for Student Equity in Higher Education (2018), and secondment to the Australian Government Department of Education (2019). She is an elected member of the UniSC Council, serves on the International Social Marketing Association Board, and contributes to committees such as the Australian Centre for Student Equity and Success Large Grants and Indigenous Fellows Committee. Her scholarly impact is evidenced by awards like the Vice Chancellor's Medal for Outstanding University Teaching (2006), ALTC Carrick Institute Citation (2006), multiple Best Paper awards at ANZMAC conferences (2009-2014), and Emerald Literati Awards. Notable publications include "Equity challenges and opportunities in higher education: Insights for Australia from South Africa" (Raciti & Motala, 2025, Journal of Higher Education Policy and Management), "A call to Indigenise occupational wellbeing" (Raciti & Gibson, 2025, Medical Journal of Australia), "The problem of Australian First Nations doctoral education" (Raciti et al., 2024, Journal of Social Marketing), and "Unmuted: An Indigenist truth-telling provocation" (2023). As Associate Editor for the Journal of Social Marketing and other journals, and through international collaborations, she advances decolonising methodologies and Indigenous knowledges in academia.
